Portland House’s banking hall spans across an impressive 4000 sq foot floor space with floods of light coming down from an open glass ceiling. The Banking Hall is a particular favourite with its original 1920’s decor and grand interior charm. It has been used as a filming location numerous times for companies to capture their set productions.
Take a look at Portland House as featured in BBC's Doctor Who Series 3 (Blink episode)
As the venue offers such an open and stunning, versatile space, the building has attracted many companies to come in and transform it into whatever they like (within reason), such as a police station or even a poker den as we've had in the past.
Located in the darkest most eerie place in the building, is the basement where the bank vaults originally stood. Even today the furniture from the Old Natwest Bank as it was in 1927 still remains and these quirks are what bring people back to film time and time again.
It’s not that common to have an old bank vault in a basement, is it? The old bank vaults have seen many things in the past, some more notable than others. It’s been dressed as a poker den, a torture room and even as a Halloween underground horror tour.
The Bank Vaults even made it into British horror film Panic Room (Watch below)
Here are just a few named productions that Portland House has made an appearance in:
BBC’s Doctor Who
Ross Noble’s TV comedy show Freewheeling
S4C’s Gwaith Cartref
CBBC’s Wizards vs Aliens
2011 British film, Panic Button
Welsh based news – Made In Cardiff TV Channel
Music Video for British metalcore band, Architects
Not only is it great to support local TV and filming, but it gives this Grade 2* listed building a chance to show off its assets.
